Dogfish Head Brewery

Dogfish Head Brewery

Don’t let a quirky name like ‘Dogfish Head’ turn you away from this oft-celebrated craft brewery based out of Milton, Delaware. It’s “off-centerd stuff for off-centered people” slogan is actually dead on as far as taste and drinkability goes! The brewery takes its name from Dogfish Head, Maine where founder Sam Calagione spent summers growing up as a kid.

They have some very creative and highly sought after ales like the wondeful Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA – a powerful but balanced East Coast IPA with a ton of citrusy hop character! In fact, it’s continuously hopped over a 60 minute boil period. It’s predecessor, the Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA, is their imperial IPA. Like the 60 minute, it’s made over the period of time which designates its name. The general rule of thumb I’ve come to appreciate: the longer the hops are boiled, the more bitterness you can expect to find in your beer.

I also found myself drawn to the rather experimental Raison D’etre; a deep mahogany ale that is as complex as fine red wine! Now we’re talking my lingo :). Bring this guy to your next backyard cookout. It’s brewed with beet sugar, green raisins and a Belgian style yeast! And, be on the lookout for a pumpkin-themed offering of theirs coming out soon called ‘Punkin.’ Sure to get you in the spirit as the seasons begin to change!
