Yikes! For the first time ever, I entered a cooking contest and won…sort of. I’ve cooked all my life—started in junior high and have always loved it.
Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking played a huge role in my cooking ‘life’ and has been in my library for more than 25 years. (BTW, I recommend the new movie ‘Julie and Julia’…entertaining and inspirational for those who pursue their passions!)
I entered this contest in Austin that’s sponsored by the fabulous Z Tejas restaurants. I’ve always been a big fan of their 6th street restaurant, and that’s where the contest will end.
The competition is to create a dessert that features chiles in the ingredients. I submitted my recipe which was inspired by our 100+ degree temperatures and just found out I’m one of three finalists! To me, that’s a victory considering this is totally unexpected.
I travel there Saturday morning to prepare the dish for the judges. Whether I win or not, I’ll share the recipe with you. I’m superstitious or I’d give it to
you now. Wish me luck!
I’ve got all kinds of fun cooking segments and wine buying help on my website. Hope to see you there.
