There’s so much beauty in this world, but the hummingbird is right near the top of my list. Their elegant, sparkling, colorful, tiny bodies amaze me – as does their speed!
I stole away for a few days to relax and get ready for a very busy work schedule this summer. Just up the road from San Antonio on the west side of Austin is America’s number one spa destination according to Conde Nast magazine. It’s the Lake Austin Spa, and it sits as you would image right on Lake Austin.
Of all the glitzy, fancy spas in the country, it seems people are drawn to Lake Austin Spa for its serene setting—an unpretentious but beautiful facility on the water. Directly across the narrow river is a nature preserve, and the spa grounds are full of dozens of different flowers and plants, including the garden from which much of the delicious low fat meals are made.
There’s nothing like nature to inspire, and this morning seeking a little quiet time, I sat on a boat ramp close to the hammocks you see in the picture. A hummingbird took a sip from a nearby plant and then flew right over to me and hovered less than two feet from my face. She stared at me, and I marveled at her. After a bit, she took off.
I know this sounds crazy, but it was like the feeling you get when you meet someone you’ve always admired from afar. I was elated and then grateful. What an incredible way to start a day!
