Fiesta is many things to many folks whether it’s a family tradition of staking out a perfect spot for the parades, a night of revelry at NIOSA or simply a backyard fiesta with neighbors and friends.
In all cases there’s one thing in common – great food! And yes, often beer and sangria are in the mix. One of my favorite events is Brighton Center’s “A Taste of the Northside” presented by LYND. It’s always on the Wednesday evening of Fiesta on the beautiful grounds at the Club At Sonterra. This will be the event’s 13th year.
A Taste of the Northside is a food and wine fan’s dream event–an incredible evening where more than 50 of San Antonio’s best restaurants showcase their food at booths scattered around the grounds. Sure, you’ll have anticuchos and cowpokes but you might also sample duck confit, tenderloin and shrimp.
Plus, there’s a variety of craft beers on hand and some fun wines are poured as well.
You can elevate your experience by purchasing a ticket to the Goodtaste with Tanji VIP Lounge inside the clubhouse. This is where a select group of top chefs offer delicious dishes paired with special wines. We have a total of 9 restaurants in the VIP Lounge:
- The Club At Sonterra (VIP)
- Boudro’s (VIP)
- Luke’s (VIP)
- Myron’s Prime Steakhouse (VIP)
- Paloma Blanca (VIP)
- The Grill
- CIA Bakery
I can still remember Boudro’s Ropa Vieja braised beef flank steak on mini corn tortillas and Francesca’s sweet scallops with heirloom corn not to mention Chef John Armstrong’s Jamon Serrano wrapped Fresno stuffed quails and baby arugula with crisp breakfast radish with a lavender strawberry burst. The food and wine in the VIP room makes for a memorable time.
In addition to the wonderful food and wines, perhaps the best part of A Taste of the Northside is its mission. All of the proceeds benefit the Brighton Center – a wonderful school that for more than 40 years has been serving children with disabilities and developmental delays. Families whose children have been touched by Brighton will tell you their services are invaluable.
