Attention all you seafood lovers: Galveston Island is a year-round paradise! The month of September, however, is especially noteworthy with the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival to be held in just a few weeks on Friday, the 23rd thru Sunday, the 25th. The outdoor celebration features some of the best shrimp gumbo the Gulf Coast has to offer!
This year’s festival has also been expanded from Galveston’s downtown historic district to include a Jumbo Shrimp Jam concert on Pier 21 featuring the diverse sounds of Austin’s own Bob Schneider and nationally acclaimed vocalist Nakia from NBC’s The Voice!
Other additions to the festival include a boat and RV show, Blessing of the Fleet and Boat Parade on Galveston’s harbor. The Galveston Boat & RV show will kick-off Shrimp Festival activities beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23. Advance tickets are available online for $8 at www.galvestonboatshow.com
The shrimp gumbo cook-off, a 5K Shrimp Scamper Fun Run, a kid’s parade and live entertainment will be held in downtown Galveston on Saturday, Sept. 24. Public sampling of gumbos from more than 80 amateur and professional restaurant cook teams will begin at noon – my favorite event. Try this ultra exclusive recipe from Gaido’s…
Last year’s inaugural festival drew an estimated 10,000 attendees!! You don’t want to miss out…
The Jumbo Shrimp Jam concert will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 on Pier 21. Advance tickets are available at a discounted rate of $18 each or $16 each when you buy a 4-pack online at www.yagaspresents.com/shrimpfestival.
Tickets for the public gumbo sampling are $10 per cup. For registration and more event information, visit www.galvestonislandshrimpfestival.com
