The Sides Make The Meal!

November 8, 2011 By Tanji 2 Comments

Ever tried Oaxacan Creamed Corn? Mmmm, it’s delicious. Rich, creamy and packed with flavor. Let’s face it: When it comes to the Thanksgiving Day meal, it’s all about the sides! Turkey is turkey, but the sides can really make your meal shine!

I can tell you I made an unexpected discovery at Paesanos 1604 that I’ll feature once again on my holiday table – the most delicious fall vegetable medley I’ve EVER had. Plus, it was absolutely beautiful to behold! Your family will be so impressed.

The new dish is amazing at Paesanos as it is served with salmon (I’ll order it every time), but it’s perfect, perfect, perfect for turkey! Rich butternut squash, tiny Brussels sprouts with dried cranberries, toasty almonds and it’s all drizzled with the most incredible butter sauce. I’ve got the recipe right here…

Some of my other favorite sides include:

A delicious savory jalapeño cornbread stuffing that comes from the Westin La Cantera. This stuffing isn’t difficult to make and it adds so much flavor to the traditional turkey dinner.

Green beans are always a crowd pleaser and these garlicky delights from Morton’s Steak House are sure to please.

Another winner from is this corn tart from Paesanos…comfort food at its best!

Everyone needs something zesty on the table and famed Chef Stephan Pyles has the answer with this delicious cranberry sauce with just a hint of habanero.

These brussels sprouts with bacon are incredible – I mean, c’mon, they’ve got bacon!

This is a fun twist on the traditional sweet potatoes. These come from HEB’s Cooking Connection and are spiced with maple and pumpkin – a beautiful addition to any table. And, wait till you see the magic ingredient that makes these so simple to prepare!!

And last, but not least, perhaps an all time favorite – a Pumpkin Pie Martini! This is scrumptious! I discovered it at the beautiful Masraff’s restaurant on Post Oak Boulevard in H-town.
