Even though our beloved Cowboys or Texans didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, chances are we’ll all take in some of Sunday’s game…even if it’s just to see Madonna’s half-time performance. If you’re tired of hot wings, queso and the usual Super Bowl snacks, I’ve got some delicious alternatives like a warm brie with a caramel agave topping for starters.
Warm Brie with Agave Caramel Sauce
This dish is super simple to prepare and what sets it apart from so many other brie hors d’orves is the caramel sauce–it’s rich and creamy but sweetened with Agave instead of sugar. I found it at H-E-B’s Cooking Connections at their Montrose Market, but all of the Cooking Connections should have it. The dish is topped off with tangy slices of apples and pears.
Hummus Three Ways
Another idea that’s always a hit is hummus, and thanks to the esteemed Les Dames d’Escoffier I have their recipe posted for Hummus Three Ways… a roasted red bell pepper version, one with pine nuts and even a green olive hummus.
Spinach Artichoke Dip
And another delicious choice is the Gristmill’s creamy spinach and artichoke dip. If you’ve ever been to historic Gruene, TX, then you’ve probably eaten at the Gristmill. It’s a wonderful spot high atop the Guadalupe river. They agreed to share their recipe for this popular dip. It’s sure to be a hit at any party!
I’ve got all kinds of recipes on my website Goodtaste.tv. While you’re there be sure to sign up for my newsletter…you just might win a romantic stay at the Westin La Cantera.
