Spring break is right around the corner! Goodtaste has you covered with some quick and creative getaway ideas. If you’re looking for something cool to drink poolside check out Rio Blanco Pale Ale from my friends at Real Ale Brewing Co. in Blanco, Texas or pop the cork on Girard’s Sauvignon Blanc. Crisp, citrusy and definitely up my alley for fun in the sun!
Now dust off your best road map and get ready to hit the highway – HWY 290 that is! This superior stretch of asphalt is where you’ll find vino gems like Becker Vineyards and Grape Creek. Beautiful views, terrific tasting rooms and more make these leisure destinations some of my top picks for delightful day trips.
Round up the troops and transport your fam to the comfort of Comfort. Rolling hills and spectacular scenery are why Camp Verde is worth your while! Did you know this historic site was once home to camels imported into Texas? If nothing else, seriously consider stopping for lunch (their turkey sandwich served hot with cranberry-jalapeno chutney is to die for), and by all means you’ll want to do some shopping both downstairs and upstairs in the historical general store!
Add Bending Branch Winery to your list of layovers. It’s known for it’s stock of Tannat wines – among the healthiest in the world! Riven Rock Ranch resort is also a must-do. The Terrace Grill is one of a kind–fabulous food in a beautiful setting.
Finally, scoot on over to Gruene and pay a visit to The Grapevine. There’s is home to an exemplary collection of Texas wine and other nifty souvenirs. And when hunger takes it’s toll, there’s The Gristmill – a true Texas treasure built on the banks overlooking the Guadalupe. Have you tried their chunky chicken salad yet? Here you’ll also be able to find premium wines at reasonable prices…it’s such a find!
Safe travels everyone!
