Most wine pairing dinners feature one winery, and then the chef prepares a number of courses to pair with that winemaker’s different varietals. There’s a wine dinner coming up at Masraff’s in Uptown that caught my attention because it will feature four different winemakers wines—all of them prestigious labels. They include Quintessa, Flowers, Primus and Ritual—two known for their powerful Bordeaux blends and two wineries made famous for their pinot noirs. The ’08 Ritual Casablanca Valley Pinot Noir was one of Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines in 2010.
Additionally, what makes this dinner newsworthy is that the featured wines all come from very distinctly different regions ranging from the Sonoma Coast to Chile.
- Masraff’s Halibut (one of my favs)
I’ve been to several wine pairing dinners at Masraff’s and have never been disappointed. The food is always outstanding and the service top shelf. Their tuna tempura is usually available in the bar and it’s spectacular…their halibut is one of my favorite preparations of halibut I’ve ever had!

Ben Roberts is Masraff’s sommelier, and he’s a master at wine and food pairing. I hear he just returned from Bordeaux, so I’m curious to hear about his wonderful finds there. Meantime, you might want to put this fun wine event on your calendar!
