Three words come to mind to describe Don Pedro’s puffy tacos…pretty darn good! Handmade and highly addictive, they’re an entrée that’s fairly unique to San Antonio and something this Southside institution has been serving up for 44 years. I pick picadillo for the filling, but really you can stuff them with anything…that’s the beauty of a taco!
Once the tortillas enter the deep fryer, the heat makes each individual tortilla separate into two layers, hence the reason they “puff” up. Over 1,000 per day on average are sold here and for good reason…they’re incredible! Speaking of which, something you don’t see too often that you’ll find here is the colorful Cabrito. It’s the best I think I’ve had of this traditional goat dish.

Look to branch out with Mi Tierra’s large variety of awesome enchiladas – a Tex Mex haven. Mole may have my heart, but the Green Chicken have a fabulous tangy twist to them…Enjoy!
There’s also my all-time favorite dish at Nicha’s…the exceptional chilaquiles! Really good Mexican food inhabits this former car wash – that’s one heck of a makeover!
