I lost a soul sister to breast cancer some years back – the kind of best friend that may only come around once in a lifetime. I’m grateful for the privilege to have known her. There’s an event in Houston I’ve been a part of for a couple of years now that is sponsored by the folks at Memorial Hermann called In the Pink of Health, and its proceeds pay for mammograms for women who cannot afford them. The event was in The Woodlands at the Marriot.
As emcee this year, I had the pleasure of introducing the keynote speakers–reality TV stars Giuliana and Bill Rancic. Giuliana, as you may know, hails from E!, and Bill was the original winning Apprentice on Donald Trump’s popular show. Now, they have their own reality show called Giuliana & Bill.
I’ll be honest. I don’t watch a lot of TV-I find most of it negative and uncreative. So, before today I had never seen their show. I really had no idea what these two would be like other than the info about them I gleaned from Google. I knew Giuliana was a breast cancer survivor and had bravely shared her story with viewers on TV. But honestly, I was expecting a ‘Hollywood’ type presentation from them.
I was so wrong. These two were incredibly genuine and engaging. Their story was very touching and inspiring. Two beautiful folks who openly talked about their personal struggles…about how their faith pulled them through and how that faith is such a big part of their lives today. There weren’t many dry eyes in the house!
