In the heat of the summer, a heavy meal isn’t appealing…at least not to me. So, it was a great find to pop into Ruggles Green over in CityCentre off of I-10.
Love the organic, healthy choices on this menu! Most of their ingredients are sourced locally and many are organic. Ruggles Green also offer a number of gluten free, dairy free and vegan choices as well.
Ruggles Green is Houston’s first Certified Green Restaurant, adhering to the guidelines of the Green Restaurant Association. It’s a cute spot and a busy one!
Everything we tried on this visit was tasty from the generous platter of fish tacos to the 98% lean Buffalo burger with a generous topping of melted cheddar cheese. My favorite dish this day was the fresh, raw kale salad. I topped mine with a grilled salmon filet, and the combo was perfect.
The kale was tossed with slices of ripe, ruby red strawberries, delicious dried mango bits, sliced almonds and feta cheese then lightly dressed with a tangy garlic poppy seed dressing…perfect for summer!
The salad was so good that I asked for the recipe for the garlic poppy seed dressing, and voila…here it is!
I’ve got some other great salad ideas on Goodtaste.tv including a recipe for a Tandoori Chicken Salad from Chef Monica Pope over at Sparrow Bar+Cookshop in Midtown. Monica also sources local, seasonal ingredients at her restaurant.
