The knowledge that cooler temperatures are on the way sparks all kinds of creative juices in my kitchen, and I’m guessing it’s the same in yours! I often get inspired to try new meal ideas by attending a number of the fun food and wine events around town this time of year.
One of the dates circled on my calendar is October 24 for the Zest in the West. This fantastic foodie fun includes dozens of H-town’s talented chefs featuring tastes of their creative dishes, wine tastes from all over the world and an extensive selection of craft beers.
One glance at the long list of restaurants and chefs involved, and you know the food is going to be fabulous.
The award winning Latin Bites team will be there. I’m a huge fan of Latin Bites. So many wonderful dishes on their menu like the award winning Causitas, a colorful collection of potatoes infused with enticing flavors of piquillo peppers, spinach basil and more.
Chef Roberto’s Pescado a lo Macho is also delicious. Calamari, shrimp, clams and mussels tossed in a zesty sauce that’s made with aji chilies and Pisco, a Peruvian brandy. I”ve got the recipe here. Speaking of Pisco, Latin Bites’ Pisco Sours are not to be missed!
Other restaurants that will be on hand at Zest include Bistro Le Cep, Carmelo’s, Kris Bistro & Wine Lounge and Peli Peli. You might recall that Chef Paul Friedman from Peli Peli won the prestigious Chef of Chefs award this year at the Woodlands Wine Rendezvous Grand Tasting and Chef Showcase (another event I never miss, btw). You can see the complete list of restaurants right here and get ticket information: www.zestinthewest.com
