I just found your perfect holiday dessert of 2013…treasure this beautiful chestnut dark chocolate cake from pastry whiz, Chef Catherine Rodriguez, at The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa. And gluten-free no less!
If you’ve ever been to New York during the fall, no doubt you know the tantalizing aroma of roasting chestnuts. It’s not a smell we are exposed to very often living in the south. In fact, I would venture to guess most of us would have a hard time describing exactly what a chestnut tastes like.
Wonder no more! On a recent video shoot for Goodtaste.tv, Catherine demonstrated how to create an elegant Chestnut Chocolate Cake. The cake itself isn’t difficult to make, but it does require a specific chestnut paste and a couple of secret chef techniques to pull it off. Catherine shares those in the video. I found the exact product she uses in the cake on Amazon.com.
The cake tastes even better than it looks, if that’s possible! When I took the first bite (there were many more), I kept thinking this cake could be served to a queen. The rich, velvety creation is truly spectacular and is our favorite new recipe this season!
Other great dessert ideas include the Ooh La La Dessert Boutique’s Italian Cream Cake. This Italian beauty also makes a nice statement on the table.
A graceful choice for an elegant holiday dessert with its creamy white icing and ruby red strawberries is the Beso De Angel cake.
I discovered this dessert at The Creek Restaurant in the charming Hill Country town of Boerne. This sweet, rolled creation filled with a mascarpone cheese surely was kissed by angels!
Another popular dessert on Goodtaste.tv is Giada’s Chocolate Tiramisu. Giada shared this recipe with us after we met at a cooking event in Houston. This dessert is so easy to make, and it’s a real crowd pleaser.
