Open your imagination at Masraff’s in Uptown: consistently one of the highest rated restaurants in all of Houston. I love this place! Sommelier Ben Roberts recently shared some of his picks for winter cocktails that really wow this holiday season…plus five-star fare to pair with.
One of my favorite all-time cocktails is back again — Masraff’s superb Pumpkin Pie Martini. No two ways about it, this is dessert in a glass at its finest. Just a delightful cocktail that’s trendy right now and tastes like actual pumpkin pie.
In addition, new twists on old classics continue! See Masraff’s take on the French 75 that gives a seasonal flare to an already fizzy, fun drink champagne lovers will certainly appreciate. Now you can try the recipe at home:
Seasons 75
1oz Cognac (Hennessy VS is fine)
1/2oz lemon juice
1/2oz simple syrup
1/2oz Leopold Cranberry Liqueur
The Manhattan Alpino is another new entry and a personal recommendation of their sommelier. The secret is in the incredibly unique, Italian liqueurs that combine for an infectious aroma and flavor. Instead of straight vermouth, we have Amaro (a bitter) and Zirbenz; Stone Pine Liqueur of the Alps made with real pine cones!
The smell instantly transports you to the forests of northern Italy from whence it came…
Some of the standout entrées to pair with include Masraff’s New Zealand Venison (Red Deer)…plated with pan roasted coturnix quail, sweet potato puree, in a blackberry aged balsamic glaze 44. Farm-raised deer that’s low in fat content. This earthy combination is a fantastic homage to the winter season.
Another popular menu item to try with a creative cocktail is the Pan Roasted Hawaiian Onaga (Long-Tail Red Snapper)…one of the highest quality fish you’ll find here — and very rare! Joined with poached pumpkin with apple smoked bacon, Chanterelle mushrooms and charred Brussel sprouts, in a red velvet white balsamic emulsion. Christmas comes early at Masraff’s!
