Let’s Rodeo, San Antonio! It’s that time of year again. The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has grown to be one of the largest and most prestigious single events in San Antonio hands down.

Once again housed at the AT&T Center, this proud Alamo City tradition of food, family and farm runs from Feb 6 – 23. While the grounds themselves provide a bounty of edible offerings, from authentic “Chuck Wagon” meals to the lively Food Court (for the best in everything fried, grilled, chopped and smoked), don’t be surprised to see many of the surrounding area eateries lassoing large crowds with similar hearty fare.
We’ve chosen four of our favorite chow spots to convene, either before or after your time at the stocks:
At Tejas Steakhouse & Saloon there is a live rodeo on-site almost every weekend – no really! It’s also been named as having the ‘Best Steak in Texas’ according to Texas Monthly. The steak, of course, is the heart-healthy, great tasting HeartBrand Akaushi. Here it’s cooked KC Style, seared in a cast iron pan…the true cowboy way to prepare this mighty meat.
Hats off to Hofbräu & Beer Garden! Just recently both locations in San Antonio have amped up their already totally Texan menus to feature the likes of new dishes, such as a double-battered Chicken Fried Ribeye stuffed with luscious loads of jalapeño and Cheddar cheese. Not to mention, this is the home of the ORIGINAL Dos-a-Rita with live country music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night…come boogie!
Willie’s Grill & Icehouse is widely known to be a winner around these parts. There’s the usual array of hamburgers and hotdogs to please most, but how about boiled crawfish – made to order in-house! You can’t go wrong with an expanding seafood menu, signature cocktails like the ‘Big Willie’ melon margarita and dessert that’s simply irresistible [See their Texas Peach Cobbler]. Be sure to bring the kiddos…there are plenty of places to play from the sandbox to the arcade. A spot well worth it to unwind after a night downtown together.
Say no more about Say She Ate — it’s known to be one of the best food trucks in the entire city…and they take their eats to heart. Heart-healthy beef from Heartbrand Akaushi once again shows up here, only in the form of picture-perfect portable sliders! And what a variety. There’s the Original (with Blue Cheese, caramelized onions and Frank’s buffalo sauce) all the way the Akaushi Bean Burger, inspired by the colorful culture of San Antonio. Catch them on the move around town by following their Facebook page. And don’t forget to try a side of Duck Fat Fries…to die for!
