Food created from passion, born from inspiration. Kiran Verma and her eponymous restaurant (Kiran’s) are very well known and respected in Houston. Plus, she happens to be one of the nicest ladies you’ll ever meet. LOVE her!
Visit here any day of the week for world-class Indian cuisine and hospitality, along with some added “French sophistication and American informality.” All that’s to say, this place rocks – and has left a lasting impression on my taste buds!
What you may not know is that the foundation of any good Indian meal begins and ends with the Naan. This leavened, oven-baked flatbread literally acts as your fork for any number of aromatic entrées throughout your dining experience. It’s fun just to watch it being created…a show all its own.
Once your flour is ready, into the tandoor (a clay oven lit by charcoal) it goes! Kiran’s is THE place in Houston to get wonderfully authentic Naan. In fact, often times — and especially during Happy Hour — the stuffed Naans become a meal unto themselves. Varieties like Wild Mushroom & Baby Spinach, or their most popular, Goat Cheese & Rosemary.
Kiran was gracious enough to share the recipe for making her Naan. Heads up, you’ll need several hours to pull it off just right. More on that from Kiran in our short video above 🙂 …needless to say it’s a process! But well worth the outcome.
Naan is a quintessential part of the Indian food culture, and may just become a fixture with your family at home. So much Naan, so little time!
Chef Kiran recently launched her own Chai Blend. Try her recipe for Masala Chai Tea. Simply divine!
