You’re looking at the next Food Network Star — at least we hope! The tenth season of the long-running competition series returns to primetime on Sunday, June 1st with more intense culinary challenges, and features a brand new cast of contenders to include San Antonio’s own, Chef Luca Della Casa!
That’s our guy above, front and center, in the pink with a tie. 😉
Born in Torino, Italy, Chef Luca is already a star around these parts. Having been in the food industry for over 20 years, he now creates those perfectly portioned edibles you can find most any day of the week at Silo and sister restaurant Nosh in Alamo Heights. On this particular day, Goodtaste caught up with the chef in question at the beautiful Sysco Central Texas kitchens for a dazzling cooking demonstration that makes use of all locally sourced products.
This refreshing Texas Shrimp and Tomato Salad is currently on the menu at Nosh and contains vine tomatoes, red onion, avocado and fresh basil. The standout ingredient, however, might be the dressing…a delectable red wine vinegar dressing Chef Luca makes from scratch using a food processor. His secret ingredient is an egg yolk that brings together the creaminess of the condiment.
The recipe is very easy and straightforward. Try pairing this dish with an Italian Pinot Grigio — Chef Luca’s personal recommendation!
An adventurous, rugged outdoorsman with a passion for food, Luca has worked his way up from dishwasher to prep cook to line cook to executive chef. He learned to cook with his family and is determined to bring people together around a table to share food, Italian-style. The salad he made for our cameras just might do the trick!
Be sure to tune into Food Network all summer long until the finale on August 10th when the big winner is revealed. This season Chef Luca is also joined by another Texas hopeful, Chef Sarah Penrod, who owns her own catering and personal chef service based out of League City near Houston. It sounds like this season is shaping up to be a true Texan showdown!
