This is one ‘date night’ you don’t want to leave up to the last minute! Here’s our starter list for trendy spots to get you inspired to wine and dine on Valentine’s Day in SA…
Boudro’s on the San Antonio River Walk is one of the city’s most iconic restaurants. If you’ve never been for their legendary Tableside Guacamole or a Prickly Pear Margarita on their gorgeous patio, now’s your chance! This ultra-romantic spot is rich in regional heritage with a distinctive menu that features wood-grilled steaks and southwestern specialties like their longstanding Duck & Sausage Gumbo. For Valentine’s Day, Boudro’s has a special pre fixe menu that highlights their Black Angus beef tenderloin filet with lobster tail, sautéed asparagus and a creamy lemon risotto…plus dessert!
I’ve been a reoccurring face at Piatti for years now. The new location at Éilan is stunning. Here you’ll find sustainable and locally-sourced ingredients in a vibrant atmosphere – a commitment to high quality Italian. Goodtaste has the recipe for their Heirloom Celebration Panzanella Tomato Insalata [below] – a specialty salad for when the season calls! Their 3 Course Pre Fixe menu on Valentine’s includes an appetizer (soup, salad, etc.), your entree, and dessert for $45.
Silo now has 3 locations in the Alamo City, plus sister restaurant Nosh (oysters, specialty pizzas) – one of my local faves. No word on the menu just yet, but you’re always in good hands with Executive Chef and hometown Food Network Star Luca Della Casa. Watch Goodtaste in the kitchen with Luca as he creates a Texas Shrimp & Tomato Salad that we also have the recipe for…
The Cookhouse has a menu that goes beyond Cajun and Creole. Led by Chef Pieter Sypesteyn, menus change seasonally, yet remain centered around the culture complexity in New Orleans cuisine. See the Dinner Menu here.
Discover an intimate and elegant dining environment at Fig Tree Restaurant, located in historic La Villita. The patio [below] is also one-of-a-kind, with white lights which accent the surrounding wrought iron fencing. We have the recipe for their Crab Cakes, made with Gulf Lump Crab, Green Goddess sauce and Frisée lettuce.
Any lovers looking for a puro San Antonio experience, go no further than La Margarita in Market Square – Home of the Original Sizzling Fajitas! Goodtaste caught up with resident chef, Cariño Cortez, to sample some of La Margarita’s most noteworthy eats. Entrées like the Oysters La Margarita and their popular Ceviche.
The award-winning Bliss off S. Presa in downtown SA offers contemporary American cuisine with a Southern influence. It’s another one that has an AMAZING patio. The menu adapts to seasonal changes and right now their Valentine’s Day menu remains a mystery. Diners are encouraged, however, to create a multi-course experience based on appetite and desire with an ever-changing selection of appetizers, salads and entrées.
Myron’s Prime Steakhouse (in both San Antonio & New Braunfels) is open every evening serving Chicago Prime beef, the top 20% of the USDA Prime beef in the United States! Named by San Antonio Magazine as the best steakhouse in town, DO save room for dessert with this recipe for Myron’s Bananas Foster.
Cured at Pearl has already received much acclaim under the direction of Chef/Owner Steven McHugh. Now this charming haven for hand-crafted cured meats is up for a national award from the National Restaurant Association. Happy Hour is a delight, Mon-Sat from 3-6 pm with 1/2 off all drinks. Learn Charcuterie 101 from the Chef himself…
Another staple of the Pearl Brewery is Arcade Midtown Kitchen. Think of it as “a mix of Pearl’s historic past and San Antonio’s casual culinary sophistication.” Seasonal New American fare, along with killer craft cocktails make this place a hit. Chef Jesse Perez is the inspired owner behind what is quite possibly my favorite Old Fashioned Red Velvet Cake in town, made with Bourbon Vanilla Anglaise.
Pearl Brewery’s final entry on our list is Il Sogno Osteria. This five-star Italian café features a great list of wines, cheeses and primi pastas. Kick things off at IL Sogno Osteria with their Olive Tapenade or Asparagus and Truffled Egg Salad – that’s steamed asparagus with truffled egg, salty ricotta and bacon! For your main squeeze? The Wild Mushroom Lasagna is a flagship menu item, as is their famous Nutella Tart.
Home of legendary steaks and celebrated seafoods, Bohanan’s is the right blend of Texas spirit and Old World charm. In the past, it’s been selected by the San Antonio Express-News as being the Most Romantic Restaurant in the Alamo City. They also proudly serve HeartBrand Akaushi Beef here…the best beef money can buy. It’s also the healthiest! Have a drink on us this Valentine’s Day – like Bohanan’s classic Old Fashioned [below].
