It’s FINALLY Spring Break and all we’re thinking about is lighter fare and great wines from H-E-B as we look towards Easter…
This first item is an unbelievably decadent Candied Bacon French Toast from Robard’s Steakhouse, housed inside the gorgeous Woodlands Resort & Conference Center. It’s a Blue Cheese French Toast on brioche bread, made with lush Bourbon Cherry sauce.
Sweet, savory and certainly works as both an appetizer and dessert. I paired ours with a Malbec Rosé from Finca de Origen:
This next seafood dish is from one of my Uptown favorites – Masraff’s. They’re consistently known to fly in the best seafood from all over the world, as well as source locally. This is a Herb Crusted Hawaiian Swordfish (Porcini Laced Shutome) that screams spring! Plated with an exotic mushroom ragout and vegetable medley in a superb saffron butter sauce:
I paired Masraff’s swordfish with the Pinot Noir by Josh Cellars. Incredible grapes with a unique family history. You could also try a Riesling. Milbrant Vineyards’ has a Riesling that’s fruity and under $15 I enjoy.
Last but not least…Designer Peeps! These ‘Elevated Peeps’ for Easter aren’t the store bought brand we all know, but homemade. Aren’t they adorable? And they come in fun flavors like blueberry, key lime…the list goes on! Special thanks to the pastry chef at The Houstonian, Catherine Rodriguez, for these sugary marshmallow treats — and the recipe!
