Last week, we kicked off a three-week tour de taste around Texas on Goodtaste.tv with The Driskill – Austin’s oldest operating hotel. Our next historical stay this summer takes us to the Bayou City and The Lancaster Hotel, celebrating 90 years in downtown Houston!
A little history and some fun facts on Lancaster below. It’s the food, however, that continues to be top of mind. The restaurant inside, Bistro Lancaster, doesn’t disappoint! This Warm Croissant Bread Pudding – the Bistro’s signature dessert – has been wowing guests for over 20 years! It comes ready for sharing with mulled sultanas and a decadent, homemade rum vanilla bean caramel sauce. The type of dessert that really stops you in your tracks…whoa!
We have the recipe on Goodtaste.tv. Talk about timeless!
Bistro Lancaster is known for its power breakfasts, business lunches and pre- and post-theater dinners; a charming spot for meetings and entertaining year-round.
Originally constructed in 1926 across the street from the City Auditorium (now the site of Jones Hall), the hotel’s own beginnings coincide with the Houston Theater District. Stars performing at the neighboring theaters were regular guests at the then Auditorium Hotel.
The Auditorium was renamed to Lancaster–Houston’s first boutique hotel. This is the only historic hotel in the city owned by descendants of the original developer and is Houston’s oldest continually operating hotel!
Today, the local landmark offers plenty of tranquility and comfort. You’ll rest easy amidst the distinctive décor, original 19th century art and other ornate furnishings. 🙂
The Lancaster is celebrating its 90th anniversary by offering a $90* Sunday night guest room rate through Sunday, November 27, 2016. In addition to the special guest room rate, the hotel will offer a three-course dinner for two at Bistro Lancaster for $90 during this same time frame!
