All aboard for one last rodeo…for now! Our season finale of Goodtaste with Tanji airs this weekend, July 2-3, in select Texas cities! Just in time for fireworks on the Fourth! 🙂
**There’s an UPDATE to our San Antonio showtime for this weekend! Scroll down for details!**
Continue to visit Goodtaste.tv regularly for easy access to exclusive recipes, wine pairings, as well as fun places to wine, dine and unwind in South Texas–all but a click away! For now, here goes-
NICHA’S COMIDA MEXICANA
For some of my favorite chilaquiles, head south! San Antonio’s historic Mission district is also home to “The Original” Nicha’s – serving the Alamo City for almost 40 years! With a menu inspired by and built on family recipes, the Garcia’s continue to spread the love with authentic Tex-Mex eats and lots of local flavor.
The recipes here are the real deal. Many, like the Texas Fried Burrito you see here (beans, cheese, your choice of meat, topped with chili con carne and cheese), have been on the menu since 1977! That’s back when “Nicha’s” was first “Minit Taco,” located in a tiny shop next to a carwash on the city’s southside.
Another perk- breakfast is served all day, and breakfast taco fans, there’s over 25 different combinations to choose from!
THE REPUBLIC GRILLE
It’s ALL about The Woodlands at The Republic Grille–along with one of the very best chicken fried steaks in town! Down home cooking is done right here, where southern plates are served with a sense of pride. On display throughout the restaurant are historical renderings, memorabilia and photographs which capture the essence of The Woodlands 40+ year history. This includes a frame of the original town center drawing done by developer George Mitchell in 1972- on a napkin no less!
My H-E-B Cooking Connection friends also give us their take on a signature dish, the Shrimp & Grits (Carolina Style), with Andouille sausage and pecan smoked bacon! And, wait until you meet Edith, RG’s 89-year old Customer Relations Manager!
GOURDOUGH’S PUBLIC HOUSE
Go ahead dive in – I dare you! Indulge in big, fat donuts at Gourdough’s in Austin! Downright decadent donuts that come with all kinds of meals…burgers, sandwiches, even sensational salads. Some, as you can imagine, make for dessert all by themselves…
This insane Country Clucker features crispy fried chicken breast, a potato pancake, warm cream corn and candied jalapeños–all served on a piping hot donut:
What once began as a food trailer at ACL has expanded into a permanent truck on 1st Street and two brick and mortar locations throughout the city. A plain bun’s just not nearly as fun!
Plus…
In celebration of all things summer- some great hot weather wines. Even hotter prices! 🙂
