Apple lovers are sure to find this festival appletizing! Central Market is hosting its inaugural “Great Apple Harvest” September 21 – October 4.
Shoppers are invited to come and sample an array of new apple-themed products and recipes; a wide assortment of eats with apples scrumptious to the very core! During this two-week festival, apples will be entering their peak of season freshness. From crisp, sweet Galas to those crunchy, tart Granny Smiths, the shelves will be stocked with more varieties than Texas has ever seen! Something to satisfy every kind of craving. 😉
Fellow fanatics, I’m right there with you. There isn’t much a juicy apple can’t cure, and with so many varieties to choose from, it’s unlikely you and I will ever try them all in our lifetime. In fact, over 2,500 varieties of apples are grown in the United States alone!
The Central Market Cooking School will also lead several unique classes in conjunction with the Great Apple Harvest, to include ‘Pairing Sake & Apples’ for those ages 21 & up, as well as a more traditional ‘Bakes Apples: Savory & Sweet’ course with baking expert and cookbook author, Abby Dodge. There, learn trade secrets to baking both sweet and savory apple dishes like this Rustic Apple Galette [above] with creamy salted caramel sauce. If your sweet tooth serves you well, this sugar glazed Apple Pecan Cake should pique your interest. It’s a recipe straight out of the Central Market 20th Anniversary cookbook; a dessert that operates as comfort food, decorated with pecan halves as an ode to the South.
