Need-a margarita? Of course you do! On Thursday, Feb. 22, we celebrate National Margarita Day, which celebrates this classic cocktail and the finest margarita makers in the land. This year, we’re shaking it up with a few new twists on this refreshing drink, plus a few ideas on where to celebrate.
Ready to get sipping? Start with that mouthwatering margarita from Arnaldo Richards’ Picos in Houston. They will be featuring all of their private barrel selection margaritas at $2 off.
On the Sweet Side
This Piña Rita tastes (and looks) like ‘vacation’ in a glass! You can get it at State Fare or Star Fish in Houston for $10 on National Margarita Day, or mix it up on your own to bring the party home! Get the recipe here.
Shake It Up With Spice!
For a sensational spin on the classic, try this Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita from the J.W. Marriott Hotel & Spa in San Antonio. The resort’s restaurant Cibolo Moon infuses their tequila with strawberries and jalapeño for a drink that’s got a touch of sweetness and a dash of heat. Get the recipe here.
Our friends at Maudie’s Tex-Mex, who we featured earlier on Season 3 of Goodtaste with Tanji (ab0ve), will be featuring a top-shelf margarita special, the ‘Fire in the Hull,’ with strawberry and jalapeño infused Dulce Vida Blanco Tequila and house made agave-lime mix topped with a splash of Topo Chico. The Fire in the Hull margarita will be available at all Maudie’s Tex-Mex locations for $5 throughout National Margarita Day.
We love the Anchorita for a spicy spin! This cocktail is made with Ancho Reyes, a spicy and sweet ancho chile liqueur that adds a unique touch to this classic Milagro margarita! Get the recipe here.
Get the Skinny On These Skinny Margaritas
If you gave up sugar for Lent, rest assured, you can still enjoy a margarita! Chef Robert Del Grande’s Cafe Annie Margarita in Houston is made without sugar, which is rumored to reduce your risk of a hangover! The potent formula simply combines fresh lime juice, Cointreau, premium silver tequila, and ice.
Our simple skinny recipe swaps simple syrup for agave nectar. Get the recipe for ‘The Freshest Margarita’ here.
Freeze! Time for a Frozen Margarita
We interrupt this post for the ultimate frozen margarita from Boudro’s on the San Antonio Riverwalk! The Prickly Pear Margarita absolutely screams ‘PARTY!’ Get the recipe for it right here.
Crave-worthy Classics
To quote the Carly Simon song “Nobody does it better”…one of ‘The Best’ margaritas is the Hugo Rita at Hugo’s in Houston! Hugo’s will also be celebrating National Margarita Day with a reduced price on “The Greatest Margarita Ever Sold” (below), a concoction that melds the elegance of a 25-year aged Grand Marnier with finely wood-aged Anejo Tequila from Gran Centenario. It’s normally $29, but on National Margarita Day you can find it for $15 at Hugo’s, Caracol and Xochi.
On National Margarita Day, Hugo’s, Caracol and Xochi will also offer a Margarita-paired Tasting Menu. Each pairing will feature a three-course tasting menu feature Chef Hugo Ortega’s award-winning cuisine each paired with a different margarita. Cost is $58 per person plus tax and gratuity.
Of course, you can’t beat one of Blanca Aldaco’s mouthwatering margaritas! Her all-star margarita is absolutely bonita! Get the recipe for her Bonita Margarita here.
