Today, we’re talking about big and bold wines for this autumn season. What better way to enjoy the cooler weather than to cozy up in front of the fire with a glass of vino? Here, Jamie from the H-E-B Montrose Market in Houston shares her picks for robust fall wines with lots of character.
First, we have the Treana Chardonnay ($16.98). From the Central Coast in California, this bottle is a more traditional chardonnay with a rich oakiness. Underneath the oak, you’ll also taste peach, pear and a hint of vanilla.
Next, we’re heading up to Washington and the Yakima Valley for Airfield Estates Red Wine Blend ($14.98). This affordable blend is a mix of cabernet, merlot and a touch of malbec. I love Washington wines – they have lovely dark chocolate and espresso undertones but still have a nice acidic backbone.
Lastly, a unique bourbon barrel-aged wine: the 1000 Stories Cabernet Sauvignon ($16.98). This wine is rich and tastes a little extra boozy because of the caramel and vanilla from the bourbon. It’s a great bottle for drinking on its own, but it also can stand up to a butter-basted rib-eye or a hearty winter stew.
As always, you can find all of this wine at your local H-E-B. Bonus: Get 10% off your entire purchase when you buy six or more bottles.
