We all have our favorite go-to wines, but today let’s think outside of the bottle and get out of our comfort zones. There are many great wines out there to try and some of the less popular varietals are often the best buys and great food-pairing wines. I’m sharing a few of my unique wine finds with my friends at We Are Austin on KEYE CBS Austin. Catch the full segment here.
Deor Gold Cuvee Sparkling Wine is made with garganega grapes, a popular choice for white Italian wines. It’s bright with hints of crisp apple and pear and perfect for sipping all evening — it’s only 10% alcohol. $13
Layer Cake is known for their many great varietals at an affordable price tag, and their Deep Roots Reserve Shiraz is no exception. Similar in name and grape variety to a syrah, shiraz is the Australian version that is much more fruit-forward. The bold flavor pairs great with barbecue and spicy foods. $15
The Donati Cabernet Franc has a bit of acidity and is not as bold as a Cabernet, which makes it a versatile food pairing wine.$20
The Settesoli Red Blend caught my attention. It has enough acidity to carry a lot of dishes like chicken and pork, but it also pairs well with chocolate. It’s an ideal wine to sip from dinner through dessert. $15
As always, thank you to our good friends at We Are Austin.
