We hit some of the best local spots in Texas. Who doesn’t want to grab some Tex-Mex in Austin? Valentina’s is a must-stop with one of Texas Monthly’s favorite tacos. Here, you’ll find sizzling fajitas marinated in Mexican beer and fresh lime juice and massive mesquite smoked beef ribs fresh out of the pit. Next, we’re stopping at Whistle Stop Tea Room in Tomball, Texas, for stacked sandwiches, homemade soups, plenty of hot and iced tea and 19 pies and cakes to choose from. Don’t expect your grandma’s delicate finger sandwiches, this is a “Texas Tea Room” and you will leave full. Lastly, we head to the Texas Hill Country to the little German town of Fredericksburg to visit Rathskeller Restaurant, a century-old hospital turned eatery. At this cozy spot, they specialize in traditional German schnitzel, but the real showstopper is the over-the top-peach bread pudding with caramel sauce.
