Giving the gift of wine is always appreciated, and I’ve found so many bottles that I like that I just can’t narrow it down to three picks! Here are four wines that vary in price, but are all impressive gifts and pairings. As always, you can find these bottles at your local H-E-B.
Let’s start with bubbles! Mumm Brut Prestige is a classic sparkler from Napa. Mumm Champagnes are among the most popular in France, and their Napa variety is made traditionally — just like they do it in France. This wine is crisp and dry and will pair beautifully with anything on your table. $17
Next, is the La Storia Chardonnay. This is classic Chardonnay with ripe apples, pears and a hint of nuttiness. Because it is aged in oak, you’ll get a slight vanilla finish. It pairs great with chicken, fish and pork. $20
OK red fans, you will like this next pick: the Hess Special Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a complex pour with lovely notes of dark cherries, currants and vanilla, plus a hint of cedar and mocha on the finish. $28
Lastly, one of my favorite holiday wines: the Raymond Cabernet Sauvignon. The label is beautiful and so is the wine. This is such a smooth wine with a hint of boysenberry and warm spices like cardamom and anise. It is truly winter in a glass. $44
