Hunger is an international epidemic that affects communities in our own backyard. To fight food insecurity, the Houston Food Bank, local artists and the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft are collaborating to host the 15th annual Empty Bowls Houston. In its first 14 years, Empty Bowls Houston has raised $875,000 for the Houston Food Bank – that’s 2.63 million meals to the hungry!
To kick off the event, Archway Gallery will display over 50 finely crafted, one-of-a-kind pieces of art from invited Houston area artist, as well as Archway Gallery artists. The Empty Bowls artwork, which includes paintings, sculptures, and bowls made of ceramic, wood, glass, and fiber, may be purchased through the month-long Silent Auction. Bidding begins at their opening reception on Friday, May 10th and goes through the closing reception on Saturday, May 25th.
