Season 5 of Goodtaste is almost here (the premiere is October 5th)! After traveling all over the state and visiting over 200 restaurants, there are some standouts that I’ll dine at time and again. One of my favorites is Smashing Crab in San Antonio (featured in Goodtaste Season 3!). If you’re not afraid to do a little work for your food, then this immersive dining experience is great for the whole family. I visit my friend Shelly Miles at San Antonio Living and share some of my favorite dishes from this playful restaurant, plus some of the wine picks that I’m crushing on from Season 5. Check out the full segment here!
Tanji’s Wine Picks:
Up first is an incredible find from Napa Valley. The Fortnight California Cabernet Sauvignon is well-balanced with dark fruit flavors of blackberries and macerated cherries. You’ll taste hints of vanilla and cedar and enjoy a long, smooth finish. Try it with beef, lamb and even wild game like deer and venison. $20
The Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand is medium-bodied with fresh citrus. You’ll taste lemon, lime and grapefruit as well as passion fruit and peach. This would pair great with poultry and shellfish. $15
If you like some heat, the Sauvion Vouvray will be your favorite new drinking partner. Renowned wine critic Robert Parker says their Muscadet grapes are some of the best in the world. You’ll smell notes of honeysuckle and citrus with touches of honey and dried fruits. It pairs well with spicy food. $15
Every celebration calls for bubbly, so to toast to the new season I brought the Terre de Villelongue Crémant de Limoux. On the nose you’ll get fresh citrus followed by crisp lemon and apple. The bubbles are very fine and delicate. This pairs well with any special occasion and, of course, shellfish, poultry or fish. $20
Special thanks to News 4 WOAI San Antonio Living for all the fun! As always, all of these bottles (and many more!) can be found at your local H-E-B.
