Apart from all the costumes and candy, one of our favorite things about Halloween season is getting a good fright from a classic scary movie! Since many of us spend the night in, make it a real treat with an epic movie marathon paired with some recipes we’ve hand-picked for the occasion. Curl up and get cozy!
Hocus Pocus
On October’s full moon night, don’t start lighting any black flame candles or else the Sanderson sisters will come for you! This Halloween must-watch is perfect for the whole family, and to make it even better (and keep the witches away), watch it while munching on these No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars from Sally’s Baking Addiction.
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow)
In this kid-friendly 1949 Disney classic, Ichabod Crane says that the way to his heart is through his stomach. In this scene, croony narrator Bing Crosby tells the story of the Headless Horseman while Ichabod stuffs his face. We think you should too, with our poppable Pimento Cheese Deviled Eggs.
Scream
“Do you like scary movies?” The chilling opening scene of this movie sure gives us the creeps … but Drew Barrymore making Jiffy Pop makes us kinda hungry too! Nix the boring stuff from the bag and level up your popcorn bucket with our Cacio e Pepe Popcorn that you can snack on all night—when you’re not hiding under the blanket, that is!
Addams Family Values
A little part of us wishes we could be part of the Addams Family, but this Southern Meatloaf from The Spruce Eats will have to do! As Debbie blows up the house trying to kill Uncle Fester, he comes running out with meatloaf in hand for their anniversary dinner. You definitely won’t get the same outcome making this for your family!
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Living in a town of Halloween sounds fun to us! As Jack Skellington prepares to take over Christmas and become “Sandy Claws,” Sally makes a special soup for Dr. Finkelstein to make him fall asleep so she can sneak out. If her concoction with deadly nightshade seasoned with frog’s breath and worm’s wart doesn’t appeal to you, opt for this green-hued Split Pea Soup with Ham from Striped Spatula instead!
Edward Scissorhands
Among the various dishes Edward is force-fed by the neighborhood housewives at his welcome barbecue, Joyce’s famous hot pink ambrosia salad is beyond iconic! If you want to try your “hand” at this 1960s throwback, this version from My Baking Addiction is super simple!
Silence of the Lambs
If this scene of Hannibal Lecter breaking out of his high-security pen doesn’t make you too queasy, then these Pan-Fried Lamb Chops with Minted Pea Salad from Food52 are the perfect dinner to eat while you watch it. But you don’t have to make them extra-rare, as Hannibal prefers.
Beetlejuice
Who could forget this iconic scene from Beetlejuice with the evil shrimp cocktail and people-possessing song?! Pair it with this retro shrimp cocktail from Food Network, which we promise won’t jump up and grab your face.
