Tanji stopped by KPRC in Houston to share some seriously refreshing ways to beat the heat during these dog days of summer – and we’re here for all of it!
She kicked things off with a chilled bottle of Welcome to Italy Prosecco, perfect for sipping in the sunshine. She also brought along Gray Whale Gin. All the botanicals in this gin are sourced along the California coast. Tanji says “it’s a little softer than Hendrick’s or other traditional gins… I just think it’s beautiful.” Check out a recipe for Gray Whale Gin Oceanside Punch right here! Also, Gray Whale Gin is currently offering a special Coastal Refreshment Kit for just $89.99. It gets you a bottle of Gray Whale gin, a Sand Cloud beach towel, and a cute 32 oz. pitcher. Bonus: a portion of the proceeds supports Oceana, the world’s largest ocean conservation organization. Sipping for a cause? Yes, please.
On the food front, Tanji brought a vibrant heirloom salad from Tribute at The Houstonian – complete with a housemade green goddess dressing and crispy eggplant fritters (a nod to the chef’s family recipe). She also introduced us to Alora, one of the city’s hottest new restaurants located in The Galleria. This chic spot blends Vietnamese and Peruvian flavors in creative ways. Tanji featured their ceviche and a cocktail called the Saigon Peach, made with pisco, sweetened condensed milk, peach shrub, Vietnamese yogurt (or Greek yogurt), lime juice, and peach bitters. It’s as dreamy as it sounds.
And what’s summer without frozen treats? Tanji shared her grown-up spin on the ice pop – Aperol Spritz Popsicles! Just mix Aperol, orange juice, a splash of club soda, and a little prosecco. Freeze overnight (minimum 12 hours, she insists) and you’ve got a boozy popsicle perfect for poolside lounging. Another cool cocktail idea? Tanji’s Pineapple Coconut Margarita. It’s a rich, creamy blend of pineapple juice, tequila, and crème de coconut. Think tropical vacation in a glass.
And don’t miss Tanji’s newest adventure – Goodtaste for the Soul, a podcast filled with uplifting stories and soul-nourishing inspiration. “We want to be a beacon of brightness,” Tanji says. Subscribed to the podcast right here.
