Just like Ma used to make…and she still does – after 70 years!! Ma Harper is the master of all things creole, and her pies are to die for. Pecan Sweet Potato Pie is sure to be welcome to any holiday celebration. As a matter of fact, don’t be surprised if it steals the show, it’s that good! Enjoy!
Preparation (Pie):
Boil fresh sweet potatoes. Peel and mash. Add sugar, nutmeg, salt, eggs, allspice, cinnamon and milk. Stir well and pour filling into shell. Make sure to leave room for pecan topping. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes and add topping.
Topping:
Mix well and pour over sweet potato filling and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or till done. Cool and serve.

- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ T nutmeg
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 T maragarine
- 1 (9-inch) deep dish pie shell
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 2 cups fresh sweet potatoes
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ cup milk
- ½ tsp allspice
- 3 T flour
- ¾ cup pecans finely chopped
Topping
- 2 T margarine
- ¾ cup pecans, chopped
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup flour
