Jerry’s mother handed this recipe down through the generations and it’s a must-have at all family barbecues. To lighten it up, H-E-B swapped the hamburger meat for ground turkey and used pinto beans instead of sugary pork ‘n’ beans. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. H-E-B OLIVE OIL
  • 1 ONION diced
  • ½ JALAPEÑO, minced (seeds and ribs may be removed)
  • 1 GARLIC CLOVE, minced
  • ½ lb. EXTRA-LEAN GROUND TURKEY
  • 1 can (15 oz.) H-E-B PINTO BEANS, rinsed and drained
  • 1 Tbsp. DIJON MUSTARD 1 cup H-E-B BARBEQUE SAUCE, your favorite
  • 1 Tbsp. BROWN SUGAR or BROWN SUGAR SUBSTITUTE
  • SALT & BLACK PEPPER

Recipe Info

  1. Heat oil over Medium-High heat in a medium saucepan. Add onion, jalapeño and garlic. Sauté until soft. Add turkey; cook 5 to 7 minutes or until no longer pink. Add beans, mustard, BBQ sauce and brown sugar; stir to combine. Reduce heat to Low and simmer until sauce thickens, about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
