More options for one of my favorite summer varietals are in at the H-E-B Montrose Market. One of the biggest misconceptions I hear about rosés is that they’re all too sweet. Not true! For red fans who want a smooth transition to white – reach for rosé!
New wines for summer have arrived in the Wine Dept. at HEB – three in fact that we’ve handpicked for your drinking pleasure! Don’t forget, when you buy ANY six bottles, you’ll still receive a 10% discount off your purchase…

Try saying it five times fast — but it’s true! September wines do signal a seasonal switch in our dining habits, and our wine choices inevitably follow suit. The autumn season is just around the corner, and although temperature aren’t dropping any time soon, Summer 2014 is technically all but outta here!
A good glass of wine is all in a day’s work…at least on Labor Day! This is your friendly reminder to de-stress and decompress this coming holiday weekend. On that note, allow yourself the opportunity THIS Thursday, August 28, to cash in on discounted wines at H-E-B…it’s their annual Labor Day sale!
Rosé to the rescue! If you’re looking for relief just as temperatures are heating up, take on the remaining summer months with a wine that’s just as great to pair with as it is all by itself….rosé. July is a great time to include one of our picks with your next picnic or BBQ.
I can always count on Ralph my Wine Guy for new monthly wines to try from H-E-B, but a couple of these I’ve never seen before! Track down our three picks and you’ll be set for summer. I’ll be honest, I was stealing glances at this bottle all along…
Here’s a twist on traditional escargot from the romantic Fig Tree. Chef Byron Bergeron sauteés garlic in butter and then de-glazes the pan with Rosè, which gives this rich dish a delicious Mediterranean aspect. Cream and ground Chorizo round out the incredible flavors.
Haven is a little piece of heaven in Houston. The food is delicious which should come as no surprise. Chef and owner/partner Randy Evans was previously the chef at Brennan’s. Haven’s patio is truly one of the prettiest I’ve seen. Chef Evans sources local ingredients for his creative fare. This Texas strawberry salad is an example of fresh at its best.
This recipe was featured in the beautiful book “Like Water for Chocolate” by Laura Esquivel. This dish is for lovers. Abandon propriety, and eat with your hands. A lovely pairing for this dish would be a reposada Tequila. In a small saucepan, add the water, hibiscus flowers, cinnamon, and simmer for 3-5 minutes. Strain and […]
Topless beaches, expensive yachts, and exotic sportscars will certainly catch your eye in the South of France, but the medieval village of St. Paul de Vence will capture your heart. St. Paul de Vence is a step back in time – the tiny village winds its way up a steep hillside –the views of the […]
Take me to the South….of France! A glass of rosé wine is a start. That’s where some of the world’s finest rosés come from. Summertime is perfect for rosé. I’m not talking white zinfandel! Many rosés have a nice crisp acidity that’ s very refreshing in hot weather. Like red wines rosés are made from […]
Dark chocolate and red wine…find yourself floating up to heaven just thinking about the combination?! Keep flying and I’ll fill you in on the results of a wine and chocolate pairing I recently did at my house. There were 11 of us – 2 sommeliers, 8 admitted chocoholics and one who ‘just isn’t into desserts’. […]
What’s your favorite wine? It’s a question I’m often asked, and the answer is ’what’s your budget?’ There is a correlation between price and quality, BUT there are also some VERY good wines that don’t cost a lot of money…especially wines that work well with our summer heat
When I look for info from the local experts on wine, I often turn to Janet Easterling and Joe Baker. Both are sommeliers, and both are incredible wine connoisseurs. Janet is currently a wine consultant to a number of upscale San Antonio restaurants. She also can be found at Bergheim Cellars on Hwy 46, so […]
