Texan Cafe & Pie Shop's Fried Green Tomatoes
Crunchy fried green tomatoes that come with a kick! One plate and you’ll see why Texas Monthly named this place one of the best “small town cafés in the state."
- 2–3 green tomatoes sliced ¼ inch thick, enough for 10 slices
- 2 cups flour separated
- 1 1/2 cups cornmeal
- 1 Tablespoon ground cayenne pepper
- 1 Tablespoon kosher salt
- 1 1/2 cups milk
Combine 1 cup flour and remaining dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly.
Combine eggs and milk and whisk until well blended.
Dip green tomatoes in flour, dredge through egg mixture and back through cornmeal mixture.
Deep-fry at 350 degrees until crust is golden brown (about 2–3 minutes).
