Crab Cake Burgers

Crab Cake Burgers

The most quintessential Maryland dish is crab cakes. Serve them on a platter at your fangate -- you can even make mini one-bite crab cakes and serve them as finger food! Crab cakes also make a nice substitution for the traditional ground chuck burger patty on a bun. Be sure to remember the Old Bay! In Maryland, it’s basically sacrilegious to eat crab without it. ;)

Ingredients

  • 2 green onions finely sliced
  • 1 large egg lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • dash Hot sauce
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons old bay seasoning
  • 1 pound lump crabmeat picked over and shredded
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 4 Hamburger Buns
  • 4 large romaine lettuce leaves
  • 4 thin Red onion slices
  • Tzatziki

Instructions

  • Whisk together the green onions, egg, yogurt, mustard, hot sauce, lemon juice, and Old Bay Seasoning in a bowl. Add the crab, and mix to combine. Then add in the panko breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper, and stir together.
  • Form the crab mixture with your hands into four 1-inch-thick round patties.
  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium. Fry the cakes on both sides until golden brown and crisp, 4 minutes per side.
  • Serve the patties on the buns with lettuce, red onion, and tzatziki, as you would a burger. (You can also serve them on lettuce without the bun for an almost carb-free crab cake burger.)
