With a family brewing history that dates back to 1800, brew master and owner, Dennis Wehrman, founded Franconia Brewery in McKinney, Texas as a way to channel his German influence and carry on over two centuries of tradition! It’s a lineage that can be traced all the way back to his Great Grandfather Schaubert, who is the fine gentlemen in Franconia’s famous logo. He was the brewer back in 1800 when all kegs were made of wood, and beer was delivered by horse carriage.
Around the age of 12, Dennis began spending his summer breaks working for a local brewery. Between his numerous family ties and a lifelong love of mixology, he was predestined to make long strides in the brewing industry. And the rest, as they say, is history!
One aspect that really stands out to me is the impact Franconia is making on the environment — it’s running GREEN. One hundred percent of their ‘mash’ (left over hops after brewing) is recycled by Koster Kattle Company by turning the mash into cattle feed. A large portion of the water used for the production process is also collected and re-used! Bravo to that. Check out the entire process below:
My Pick:
Franconia Pils
It’s an early spring beer; a light, golden German style Pils. Brewed with traditional Czech Saaz hops and a German lager yeast, this pilsner has a nice hoppy aroma and dry finish. Look for this one to be out as soon as the seasons change!
