If you’re contemplating a trip to Italy, what are you waiting for?! We’ve been numerous times, and I’m often asked for my recommendations. We’ll be making another trip, but I wanted to share some of our favorite Italian destinations with you once again. Tuscany is always in the mix. Bon voyage!
As mentioned in the previous post, my husband and I took a last minute summer vacation to Italy, Tuscany and the Amalfi coast.
Our first few days were spent at a spectacular hotel and spa that we had visited before in Tuscany near Montalcino, named Castello di Velona. The beautiful property was once a castle and sits atop a bluff overlooking a beautiful Tuscan valley.
The spot also has natural thermal waters underground that not only fill the hotel swimming pool but also are available in the baths in some of the guest rooms. The waters are said to have healing properties because of their very high sulfur and mineral content.
The service at Castello di Velona is wonderful. Breakfasts are over the top, buffet style, in the stunning open air foyer.
The spa could be a destination all by itself. The service is excellent. If possible, you’ll want to save a day on your trip itinerary just for the spa.
Castello di Velona is a wonderful place to call home while you explore those enticing Tuscan towns like Montalcino.
A must do in Montalcino is the wine bar, Enoteca La Fortezza, located inside the walls of the ancient castle that sits atop the main hill. Here, you can taste the delicious Brunellos di Montalcino by the glass to your heart’s content. They also ship wine back to the states. 🙂 (Next, The Tuscan Food)

Enjoyed reading about your trip to Tuscany. Did not find details of your stay in Amalfi coast. Would love to spend a week there

We stayed in Sorrento, which was very nice. Positano is probably my favorite on the coast. And, I love Capri…actually Anacapri.
Tanji,
Thanks for sharing your trip to Italy etc. Beautiful!
