Apple Dumplings from Stagecoach Inn & Restaurant

Ingredients
  

  • 6 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and placed in water so they don't turn brown
  • 3 sheets of pie dough, cut in half

For the Sauce

  • 2 cups Sprite
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened

For the Filling

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 6 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 3 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened

Instructions
 

  • Preheat over to 350℉.

For the Sauce

  • Bring the sauce ingredients to a boil in a pan. Boil for two minutes, remove from heat, then set aside.

For the Filling

  • Combine the sugars, cinnamon and nutmeg. Then, mix 3 Tbsp unsalted butter with ⅔ cup of the filling mix (set the remaining filling mix aside)
  • Stuff the center of all six apples evenly with the butter/filling mix.
  • In a bowl, roll the apples in the remaining filling mix.
  • Place one apple in the center of each of the ½ pie dough sheets. Fold the dough around each apple and seal.
  • Place apples in a 2" ½ pan. Pour the sauce over the apples and bake at 350℉ for 40 minutes (low fan for convection ovens), rotating pan halfway through baking time.
