
Apple Dumplings from Stagecoach Inn & Restaurant
Ingredients
- 6 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and placed in water so they don't turn brown
- 3 sheets of pie dough, cut in half
For the Sauce
- 2 cups Sprite
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
For the Filling
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 6 Tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 3 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened
Instructions
- Preheat over to 350℉.
For the Sauce
- Bring the sauce ingredients to a boil in a pan. Boil for two minutes, remove from heat, then set aside.
For the Filling
- Combine the sugars, cinnamon and nutmeg. Then, mix 3 Tbsp unsalted butter with ⅔ cup of the filling mix (set the remaining filling mix aside)
- Stuff the center of all six apples evenly with the butter/filling mix.
- In a bowl, roll the apples in the remaining filling mix.
- Place one apple in the center of each of the ½ pie dough sheets. Fold the dough around each apple and seal.
- Place apples in a 2" ½ pan. Pour the sauce over the apples and bake at 350℉ for 40 minutes (low fan for convection ovens), rotating pan halfway through baking time.
