If you’ve ever wondered what goes into making a wine, the Franciscan Estate & Mount Veder Winery insist that you partake in one of their blending exercises…a process that true wine makers live for! While I was in Napa, I linked up with Janet Meyers, their Director of Wine Making, as she broke down the composition of five different Bordeaux varietals — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petite Verdoux. You don’t have to be a scientist to try your hand at this…although prepare to get busy measuring with a pipette! Blending is all about finding that proper balance. It’s a fantastic group activity that gives you a whole new appreciation about the labor that goes into producing each and every bottle!
