Enter through a modest side door off of S. Congress, up a steep (yet regal) flight of steps, pull back the figurative curtain and you’ve just stumbled upon Swift’s Attic – a rustic restaurant shrouded in an air of cool, just above the nationally recognized Elephant Room.
It’s the type of place you’d inevitably glaze over unless specifically searching for, housed in what once (over one hundred years ago) was the home of Swift’s Premium Food Co.
Best described as ‘Modern American Small Plates,’ Swift’s Attic has made an indelible impression on the local farm-to-table community. Known for their beastly burgers and one of the best Business Lunch deals in all of Austin, it was midday dessert Goodtaste was after at our brief respite.
Two tempting treats caught our attention…the Nanner Puddin’ [above] with banana cream, crispy malted chocolate, vanilla bean panna cotta, peanut brittle sherbet, and stout beer bubbles. Also, the creative Commander Crunch, made with – you guessed it – Cap’n Crunch!
Chocolate fans will particularly get a kick from Commander’s fabulous presentation, plus inclusion of ingredients: dark chocolate mousse, chocolate soil, chocolate tuile, commander crunch ice cream, blueberry bubbles.
Look for Swift’s Attic to add to the accolades in January. They’re one of four Austin restaurants chosen to be featured on a brand new show on Bravo, Best New Restaurant, hosted by “Top Chef’s” Tom Colicchio.
