Now that the weather’s warming up, we’re all about finding an ‘out of this world’ patio in Austin! We’ll bring you ‘into orbit’ …Satellite in Austin is just the spot! I’ve also found a few new wine pairings from H-E-B that go great with whatever you’re eating this spring.
Satellite is a spot many folks soar to more than once a week for lunch and happy hour because it’s a spot that’s not only delicious but also incredibly welcoming. It’s a spot where someone will know you by name in no time!
We already know at least one menu item name by heart: the Crab-Stuffed Avocado Salad (top). Creamy lump crab, fresh mango and avocado are layered over greens and yuca crisps, with a loving ladle of house-made garlic-chili ranch dressing. I’m pairing this salad with The Crossings Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. It’s one of my “go-to” white wines because you can’t beat the price point — it’s just under $15 at H-E-B.
Satellite’s Brined Pork Chop (above) is ‘over the moon’ delicious! It’s brined overnight with about 30 different seasonings, then served with red wine braised cabbage and fluffy mashed potatoes. The flavors are so complex and layered. I love a juicy pork chop with a Spanish Rioja from Ondarre — just $17 at H-E-B. If you didn’t know already, Spanish wines are some of the best bargains on the market. They’re just as layered and lovely as Cabernet Sauvignons and pair fantastically with grilled steaks and juicy pork chops.
Their Tuna Tartare Napoleon (above) will launch your taste buds to the next level! This towering stack of Ahi Tuna, Ponzu, fresh avocado, crispy wontons and jalapeño aioli is perfect for light snacking or sharing with a group. I’m loving this appetizer with the Kunde Magnolia Lane Rosé that’s just under $15 a bottle.
You can’t leave without a taste of Satellite’s ‘star’ dessert: the ‘Satellite Star’ (above). This rich three-layer chocolate cake is so beautiful, you may feel bad about poking your fork through it! But one bite in and you’ll be glad you did! The chocolate cake is soaked in strawberry purée, then wrapped in a dark chocolate shell and topped with whipped cream and strawberries. I love this dessert with the Mistinguett Sparkling Brut Rosé from H-E-B.
Special thanks to my friends at We Are Austin on KEYE CBS Austin for all the fun!
