Texas French Bread is an Austin staple that has been selling freshly-baked artisan breads, pastries, and desserts for almost 40 years. The holidays are the perfect time to stop in and dine at their bistro or pick up some fresh baked goodies to go. I visited my friends at CBS Austin and shared some of my favorites from this Austin classic, as well as 4 wines that will work perfectly for any of your holiday gifting or entertaining needs. My Wine Finds:
For all you Champagne lovers, I have a pick that won’t cost an arm and a leg! The Chateau De Villelongue Cremant De Limoux is made with grapes grown near the Champagne region, giving it a lot of the characteristics of a much more expensive bottle. It’s pale in color, with effervescent fine bubbles and floral and citrus aromas. $20
Next, is the Kunde Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is a fun party starter — it’s crisp, easy-sipping and a great crowd-pleaser. $15
If you really want to treat yourself and love red wine, pick up a bottle of Girard Petite Sirah. It is full-bodied with dark fruit and hints of tobacco and cocoa. This will pair beautifully with a roast or your holiday ham. $27
Joseph Carr Cabernet Sauvignon is made in the same wine house as one of my favorite winemakers, Josh Cellars. On the nose, you’ll smell black cherries, licorice, caramel and vanilla with a but of cherry and warm spices. $22
As always, thank you to our good friends at KEYE CBS Austin! You can find all of these wines at your local H-E-B or buy them online at HEB.com. Bonus: Get 10% off your entire purchase when you buy six or more bottles. Happy Holidays!
