When it comes to the holidays, one of Tanji’s entertaining secrets is La Panderia in San Antonio. Whether you’re hosting a Christmas brunch or looking for some outside-the-box options for Santa’s cookie plate, this homey Mexican bakery turns out some can’t miss pastries and desserts. From authentic Mexican pan dulces to French classics like buttery Palmier, everything here is a stand out. Tanji stopped in to visit our friend Shelly Miles at San Antonio Living and shared some of her favorites like the Tequila Almond Croissant, as well as a few H-E-B wine finds perfect for gifting and pouring at your holiday table. Tanji’s Wine Picks:
I love starting with sparking, so I’m sharing the Brummell Blanc De Blancs Brut. It’s a classic sparkling: subtle with fine bubbles, notes of soft apple, and a long-lasting finish. $11
Up next, is great salad and party wine. The Barone Fini Valdadige Pinot Grigio is crisp and clean with subtle honey dew and apple notes. 500 years of winemaking have gone into this bottle, so you know it’s good. $13
Next, is the H3 Cabernet Sauvignon from Columbia Crest in Washington state. Wine Spectator gave this pick 90 points, which isn’t given out often to bottles of this price point. It has notes of dark cherry and blackberry mixed with vanilla from the oak barrels. $11
Lastly, if you’re looking to step it up, try the Hess Special Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a complex wine with lovely notes of dark cherries, currants and vanilla, plus a hint of cedar and mocha on the finish. $28
A special thanks to News 4 WOAI San Antonio Living for all the fun! As always, all of these bottles (and many more!) can be found at your local H-E-B.
