We Texans never pass up on spice—the hotter, the better! While we know you can tame the heat with a cooling glass of milk, we’re opting for a glass of wine to slow the burn. Find a few of our favorite wines to pair with spicy foods below.
Miraval Studio Cuvee Specialie Rosé
This elegant French Rosé is from Miraval, a winemaker that specializes in this varietal. The wine has delicate notes of grapefruit and white flowers on the nose, with a fresh and well-balanced palate of citrus and sea salt. We will be pouring this wine with our spiciest homemade Tex-Mex! ($18)
Finca El Origen Torrontés
The Finca El Origen Torrontés has aromas of citrus peel, peach, and pineapple, with a touch of bitter apricot on the palate. It’s an easy-drinking Argentinian white that will pair nicely with Thai food and curried dishes. ($10)
Schloss Vollrads Qualitätswein Riesling
Rieslings are ultra food-friendly, and the Schloss Vollrads Qualitätswein is no exception. Because of its bright acidity, this wine will pair beautifully with Asian dishes like spicy noodles. ($19)
Pepperjack Shiraz
If you really like spice, you’re going to love this combo. The Pepperjack Shiraz is slightly tannic and brings a bit of its own spice, which creates an interesting chemistry with chipotle-inflected and peppery dishes. ($16)
Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc
The Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand is medium-bodied, with fresh citrus notes. You’ll taste lemon, lime, and grapefruit as well as passion fruit and peach. It’s a great match for spicy chicken wings! ($17)
