This weekend, Goodtaste visits a James Beard award–winning chef in Houston, follows the American dream to Dallas, and also introduces a brand-new segment where she’ll spill secrets to success in the kitchen each week!
This year, Chef Hugo Ortega is celebrating his 20th year serving up authentic Mexican dishes in Houston. His beloved restaurant, Hugo’s, has earned him a loyal following and a James Beard Award to boot! Hugo’s menu features Mexican food at its finest, from melt-in-your-mouth lamb Barbacoa to tender rabbit stew served in traditional garnachas (sweet potato masa cakes). Take it from our taste buds, you won’t be disappointed!
Fantastic food, football, and good ol’ American pride—you’ll get all that and more at Lambeau’s America Kitchen & Taps in Highland Village. The American dream is alive and well at Lambeau’s, but food is the star of this show. Sink your teeth into Tennessee Fried Chicken, Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf, and Maryland-Style Crab Cakes topped with Jumbo Shrimp. And don’t miss the over-the-top fan favorite: Dallas Chicken-Fried Steak smothered in bacon-fat gravy!
We also get ready for tailgating season with Barrett Black, the fourth-generation owner of Black’s Barbeque in Lockhart, who shares creative game day snack ideas. With innovative recipes that combine the smoky and savory flavors of BBQ with the sugary and sweet flavors of donuts, brown sugar, and honey, you’ll be cheering for these mash-ups!
Plus, we’ll get the lowdown on a kitchen item that some of the best chefs in Texas can’t live without.
Top off the week with this episode’s H-E-B wine finds!
