A new season of Goodtaste with Tanji wouldn’t be complete without brand-new wine finds! Savor the waning warm-weather months with these picks that are perfect for early autumn days. As always, all of these bottles (and many more!) can be found at your local H-E-B.
Up first, a very affordable California Rosé that I’m loving: the Hess Select. It pairs wonderfully with just about everything … hence the popular motto “Rosé all day!” This find is crisp and bursting with notes of red berries and stone fruit, with perfectly balanced acidity on its elegant finish. ($13)
Next, a find from Spain, where Tempranillo rules. The Marqués de Cáceres Rioja is a fruity, fresh wine infused with spicy, earthy aromas and a palate of blackberry and tart cherry. Serve it with Spanish tapas, of course, but also hearty pastas and even Mexican food. It’s a great tailgating wine too! ($13)
Lastly, the Callejón del Crimen Gran Reserva is a fantastic Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina. Anything you throw on the grill will pair with this wine, as it lures you in with its enticing smoky, luscious bouquet. You’ll taste purple plums, currants, and a finish with a hint of dark chocolate. Truly a great find for the season. ($20)
