In season 8, we sampled over 40 bottles of wine! From that amazing selection, we’ve chosen a few favorites worth revisiting, shared with you here. As always, you can find these picks (and plenty more!) at your local H-E-B.
Up first, a beautiful Chardonnay from a beautiful spot: the Russian River Valley in California. In the Raeburn Chardonnay, you’ll taste fresh pear and crisp apple, with just a hint of vanilla. It pairs great with a cheese tray, pastas, and chicken. ($15)
Next, a perfect tailgating wine, barbecue wine, or even spicy food wine: the Callejón del Crimen Gran Reserva. This Malbec’s enticingly smoky and luscious bouquet lures you in, after which you’ll taste ripe plum, currants, and a finish with a hint of dark chocolate. ($20)
Another very versatile food wine we enjoy is the Don Silvestre Gran Reserva Carmenere. Break out of your Cabernet habit for just one sip, and you’ll love the flavors here of dark plum and blueberry, with hints of spice. This wine pairs perfectly with roast meats, spaghetti and meatballs, and even barbecue. ($10)
Finally, here’s the all-time champion in my book for this season: the Ride Cabernet. The winemaker is a woman and a Texan—a winning combination! The grape for this luscious Cab comes from the famed Howell Mountain in Napa. ($36)
